From the recording grey matter
Reflecting on the discomfort of outgrowing relationships, jobs and circumstances, I was reminded of the fireflies we sometimes left in the jar as kids. Noting that “growing pains are not just for the young”, The Firefly ultimately escapes her jar.
Lyrics
I swirled around your statued pose
Your feet held down while mine arose
To up and soar, to take flight
To sail into unknown height
You watched me go and hoped I’d land
Back with you in native land
But I slipped through holes, I opened space
I moved beyond your time and place
The firefly has left the jar
She’s seen too much, she’s gone too far
When she came up for air
You should’ve known she’d not be there
Growing pains are not just for the young
When you follow a star dimly lit
You watched me go and hoped I’d land
Back with you in native land
But I slipped through holes, I opened space
I moved beyond your time and place
The firefly has left the jar
She’s seen too much, she’s gone too far
When she came up for air
You should’ve known she’d not be there
This firefly has left the jar
She’s seen too much, she’s gone too far
When she came up for air
You should’ve known she’d not be there
