Dear friends,

I wrote "Before Spring" long before this cruel winter. Before masked federal agents occupied Minneapolis. Before fear and outrage threatened to overwhelm us.
But protesters refuse to be defeated by frigid temperatures. Warm meals delivered to families afraid to leave their homes. Solidarity thaws some of our despair.
I hoped to capture some of this spirit while recording "Before Spring" with my son Ryan Dugan on guitar and friend Andrew Stinson on bass. We recorded our tracks in Kansas City at Weights and Measures Soundlab with engineer Duane Trower.
Spring will surely come, but we will never forget this winter.
